Why cEDH Tournament Management Is Different

Competitive EDH is not a variant of Commander - it's its own format with its own demands. The tools that run casual Commander nights, Standard tournaments, or generic brackets weren't built for cEDH.

cEDH requires pod-based pairing logic (not 1v1 Swiss), scoring systems that reflect the competitive win-focused structure (5/1/0 or similar), decklist integrity tools so every player knows what they're sitting across from, and ELO systems that account for multiplayer outcomes rather than binary win/loss.

MTGSL was built with all of this in mind from the start - not as a feature add-on, but as a core design decision.

Built for Competitive EDH

Judge-Approved Decklists

Players submit full 100-card decklists before the event. Judges review and approve via the MTGSL judge portal. Any post-submission changes are flagged. Integrity matters in competitive play - MTGSL enforces it.

cEDH Scoring Systems

Configure your exact scoring structure. The most common cEDH systems (5/1/0, 4/1/0, first-place-only) are all supported, along with custom point values for specific placements. MTGSL calculates the standings automatically.

4-Player Pod Balancing

cEDH is a 4-player format. MTGSL's pairing engine balances pods by record, avoids rematches, and handles odd player counts by creating clean 3-player pods as a fallback. Late registrations and dropouts are handled mid-event without disrupting the bracket.

Advanced ELO for Multiplayer

ELO ratings built for multiplayer outcomes - not just binary win/loss. Every player in a pod gains or loses rating based on their placement and the relative strength of their opponents. Tracks across every event, building a meaningful competitive record.

Swiss Into Playoff Bracket

Run Swiss pod rounds during the regular season or day-of event, then cut to a top-player elimination bracket. MTGSL seeds the bracket from your Swiss standings automatically and generates the elimination pods correctly.

cEDH League Series

Group multiple events into a season-long series. Players accumulate points across all events in the series, building toward a season championship. Aggregated standings update live after every event result is submitted.

Online, In-Person, and Hybrid cEDH Events

The cEDH community plays everywhere - Discord servers, SpellTable, Convoke, and in-person at LGS and major events. MTGSL works in all of them.

  • SpellTable & Convoke - Link players to their online game directly from the pairing sheet
  • In-person LGS events - Players view pairings and standings on their phones. No paper required.
  • Hybrid events - Remote and in-person players in the same event, managed together
  • Discord community integration - Organization profile with Discord links built in
