Playgroups Guide

Your regular crew, in one place - schedule game nights, log casual games, and invite the whole group to any event at once.

What's a Playgroup?

A Playgroup is a persistent group of players you play with regularly - your Friday night crew, your Commander pod, your Discord server. It's separate from any single league or tournament: you set it up once, and reuse it every time you want to run a new event with the same people, plan a game night, or just keep track of your group's history together.

Every account tier can create and join Playgroups - there's no upgrade required.

Creating a Playgroup

  1. Go to Playgroups in the main navigation
  2. Click Create Playgroup
  3. Give it a name (up to 80 characters) and an optional description

You become the owner automatically. You can add a header image and house rules later from Settings.

Inviting Members

Two ways to grow your group, both from the Invites tab (owners/admins) or Settings tab:

MethodHow it works
Search invite Search for a player by screen name or email from the Invites tab. They get a notification and can accept or decline from their own Playgroups page.
Invite link Generate a shareable link from Settings → Invite Link. Anyone with the link can join directly (no need to know their screen name) - useful for a Discord server or group chat. Revoke and regenerate at any time.

Roles

  • Owner - full control, including deleting the group and transferring ownership. Every group has exactly one.
  • Admin - can manage members, invites, settings, and everything below, but can't delete the group or remove the owner.
  • Member - can view everything, RSVP to game nights, and log casual games.

The owner promotes/demotes admins from the Members tab, and hands off ownership entirely via Settings → Transfer Ownership.

Overview Tab

The landing tab for your Playgroup, showing at a glance:

  • House Rules - your group's power-level agreement, banned cards, or budget cap, if the owner/admin has set one in Settings
  • Next Game Night - the soonest upcoming scheduled session, with one-click RSVP buttons
  • Playing Now - which leagues and tournaments your group members are currently in
  • Recent Activity - a feed of joins, accepted invites, logged games, and newly scheduled game nights

Standings & Head-to-Head

The Standings tab ranks every member by all-time wins, losses, draws, and win rate across their real league and tournament play (not just their own isolated numbers - a proper group leaderboard), plus trophy icons for league and tournament wins.

Use Compare Two Members at the top of the tab to see a head-to-head breakdown between any two people in the group:

  • For 1v1 formats (Sealed, Draft, Standard, Modern) - a real win/loss record from every match they've played against each other
  • For Commander/multiplayer pods - since there's no single winner in a pod with more than two players, this shows shared pods played together and average placement instead of a false win/loss number

Schedule Tab: Game Nights & RSVP

Owners/admins schedule game nights from the Schedule tab:

  1. Click Schedule Game Night
  2. Set a title (optional), date & time, location, and notes
  3. Optionally repeat it weekly for up to 12 occurrences - each one is created as its own independent session, so you can edit or cancel any single week without affecting the others

Every member can RSVP I'm in, Maybe, or Can't make it on any scheduled session, right from the Schedule tab or the Overview tab's "Next Game Night" card. Owners/admins can edit a session's details (pencil icon), cancel it, or delete it at any time.

Game Log Tab: Casual Games

Not every game your group plays happens inside a formal league. The Game Log tab lets any member log a casual or kitchen-table game after the fact:

  1. Click Log a Game
  2. Optionally note the format (e.g. Commander), when it was played, and any notes
  3. Check off who played and, optionally, their placement (1st, 2nd, etc.) - placement 1 marks the winner
The Game Log builds its own casual leaderboard, kept separate from the official Standings tab. Organized league play and a casual pod game aren't the same kind of result, so they're never mixed into one number.

Add to Event

Already managing a League, tournament, or Major? Owners/admins can bulk-invite the whole Playgroup at once from the Add to Event button on the group header, instead of inviting members one at a time.

Event typeWhat happens
League / Tournament Members not already in the event get a notification with a join link - they opt in themselves whenever they're ready.
Series Pick a series you manage, then one of its individual League events - from there it behaves exactly like a standalone League invite. A series itself has no roster of its own to add people to, so this is really "find the right League inside the series."
Major Majors have no invite-link opt-in, so members are enrolled directly instead - the preview shows a capacity warning if the Major doesn't have enough open spots, since there's no waitlist through this action.

You need to both manage the target event (or its series) and be an owner/admin of the Playgroup to use this.

Notifications

Playgroup invites, event bulk-invites, game-night scheduling, and game-logging notifications all go through your regular notification preferences - Profile → Notifications - where you can independently control email, in-app, and push for each one, the same as any league notification.

Settings & Danger Zone

  • Group Details - rename, edit the description, and set House Rules
  • Header Image - upload a banner image for the group page
  • Invite Link - generate, copy, or revoke a shareable join link
  • Leave Playgroup - available to any non-owner
  • Transfer Ownership - owner hands the group to another member and becomes an admin
  • Delete Playgroup - owner only, permanently removes the group and all memberships
