Overview
MTGSL includes a case management system for handling integrity complaints - from sealed pool violations to rules infractions. This guide covers two perspectives:
- Players: how to report an issue you encounter
- Managers and Judges: how to investigate and resolve cases
Reporting an Issue
If you believe an opponent has violated rules, cheated, or acted in bad faith:
- Go to the Matches tab
- Find the relevant match
- Click the Report Issue or flag icon on the match card
- Describe what happened - be specific, include the week/round number, and upload any evidence (photos, screenshots)
- Click Submit
What Happens Next
- Manager opens and reviews the case
- For sealed format disputes, evidence is sealed until the manager formally opens it ("cracks the seal")
- Manager may contact you for additional information
- A resolution is applied - could be no action, a warning, or a ban
The Fair Play Dashboard
Access the Fair Play Dashboard from the Fair Play tab on your league page. This area is only visible to managers and judges.
Case List
The left panel shows all open, sealed, and resolved cases. Each entry displays:
- Reporter → Accused player names
- Status: Open / Sealed / Resolved
- Week number and date filed
Click a case to view full details in the right panel.
Handling a Case: Step-by-Step
Step 1Review the Case
The right panel shows the reporter and accused names, case status, submitted description, and attached evidence.
Step 2Crack the Seal Sealed Format Only
For sealed events, submitted decklists and photos are sealed when the report is first filed. Neither you nor anyone else can view them until you formally open the case.
Click Crack the Seal to reveal:
- Both players' decklists
- Deck opening photos
- Any evidence photos submitted with the report
Step 3File an Integrity Report
Complete the report form in the right panel:
- Infraction Type (dropdown): Decklist/Cardpool Violation, Outside Cards Used, Rules Violation, False Report, Other
- When it occurred - free text (e.g. "Week 3, Round 2")
- Investigation Actions - what you did to investigate
- Resolution Actions - what you decided and why
- Click Post Integrity Report
Step 4Issue a Sanction (if warranted)
If the investigation warrants a sanction:
- Select Target User: the accused, or the reporter (false reports can be sanctioned)
- Select Sanction Type: Warning or Ban
- Enter a Reason (strongly recommended for transparency)
- Click Issue
Sanction Effects
| Sanction | Effect |
|---|---|
| Warning | Recorded on the case; no immediate gameplay impact |
| Ban | Player is dropped from the league and forfeits all future scheduled matches |
Bans are per-league - they do not automatically carry over to other leagues or affect the player's account globally.
Case Status Flow
Best Practices for Managers
- Act promptly - both players know the case exists; delays erode trust in the process.
- Document everything - even when no sanction is issued, file an integrity report describing your investigation.
- Don't crack the seal without cause - do it when you have a credible report and are genuinely ready to investigate.
- Use warnings first for minor infractions - reserve bans for clear, intentional violations or repeat offences.
- Communicate with both parties - let the reporter know the case has been reviewed, even if no action was taken.
Known Limitations & Planned Improvements
- Cross-league sanctions: bans are currently per-league only. A global/org-level ban system is planned.
- Automated notifications: players are not currently notified when a case they are involved in is resolved.
- Appeal process: no formal appeal mechanism exists at this time. Handle appeals via direct communication with affected players.
