Casual Tier Guide

Free accounts - join leagues, run one event at a time, and get started with MTGSL.

What You Can Do

  • Join any league you have an invite code for
  • Create and manage 1 active league at a time
  • Report match results
  • Submit decklists and deck photos
  • View standings, match history, and your personal analytics
  • Use the Public API (read-only, with an API key)

What You Can't Do (and Why)

Setting Up Your Account

1. Verify Your Email

Required for full access.

2. Set Your Profile

Upload an avatar and set your screen name - these appear on standings and match history across every league you play in.

3. Generate an API Key (optional)

If you want to access your league data programmatically:

  1. Go to Profile → Security
  2. Click Generate API Key
  3. Copy and store the key securely - it won't be shown again in full
  4. See the Public API guide for available endpoints

Creating a League

Go to Dashboard → Create Event.

Commander Power Level
  • Anything Goes
  • Bracket 4: Optimised (no Game Changer limit)
  • Bracket 3: Upgraded (max 3 Game Changers)
  • Bracket 2: Core (no Game Changers)
  • Bracket 1: Exhibition (precon/theme only)
Pairing Systems (1v1 only)
  • Round-Robin - you set the schedule; everyone plays everyone
  • Swiss - pairings generated dynamically by record each round
  • Player-Arranged - players find and schedule their own matches
Tip: Player-Arranged works well for friend groups across time zones since it removes the need for a fixed schedule.
Week Advancement
  • Match-Based: automatically when all matches in current week are complete
  • Manual: you press a button
  • Duration: every X days
  • Schedule: specific day and time each week
Scoring

1v1 formats (Sealed, Draft, Standard, Modern):

  • Points - Win 2-0: 3pts, Win 2-1: 2pts, Loss 1-2: 1pt, Loss 0-2: 0pts
  • Wins - 1pt per match win
  • Custom - set your own values. Choose between Game-Score Based (separate points per result, e.g. 2-0 vs 2-1) or Match Outcome Based (flat Win/Loss/Draw points). You can also set a no-show penalty.

Commander:

  • Pod Points - 1st: 3pts, 2nd: 2pts, 3rd: 1pt, 4th: 0pts
  • Commander Wins - Win: 3pts, Draw: 1pt, Loss: 0pts
  • Custom - set your own points for each placement (1st through 4th) plus a no-show penalty.

cEDH:

  • Standard 5/1/0 - Win: 5pts, Draw: 1pt, Loss: 0pts
  • Modified 4/1/0 - Win: 4pts, Draw: 1pt, Loss: 0pts
  • Custom - set your own win and draw point values plus a no-show penalty.
The scoring system locks once the league starts. Set it before players begin reporting matches.
Deck Privacy
  • Public - anyone can view decklists
  • Participants Only - only players in the league
  • Private - only the manager
Double Verification

Both players must confirm the result. Automatically enabled for Player-Arranged.


Managing Your League

  • Invite via Participants tab → Copy Invite Link or Invite via Email
  • Report and correct match results from the Matches tab
  • League Settings (gear icon): participant cap, waitlist, deck privacy, week advancement, Discord/WhatsApp links, late-join code
  • End League button finalises standings and moves to Past Events

Submitting a Decklist

  1. Go to Participants tab → Submit Deck
  2. Import from Moxfield or Archidekt URL, paste card list, or upload .txt/.dec file
  3. For constructed: use Validate button to check Scryfall legality
  4. For limited: upload deck photos (up to 20, max 10MB each)
  5. Click Submit

Viewing Your Stats

Profile → Match Analytics shows total matches, win/loss/draw, win percentage, per-league summaries.
